What is the carpal tunnel? It is a narrow passageway in the wrist that is about an inch wide. The floor and sides of this tunnel are made up of small wrist bones called carpal bones. The function of the carpal tunnel is to protect the median nerve and flexor tendons that bend the fingers and thumb.
